Part-Time Middle School Spanish Teacher

The Opportunity:

Carolina Friends School (CFS) is seeking a part-time Middle School Spanish teacher to begin August 2021.  Responsibilities will include teaching three sections of Spanish curriculum for students aged ten to thirteen.

CFS offers teachers an opportunity to engage with students in and out of the classroom and utilizes a narrative-based approach to student evaluation instead of letter or number grades. Teachers at CFS enjoy a school community committed to a pedagogy rooted in Quaker thought and practice. We strive to collaborate toward the realization of every child’s highest potential in the classroom, community, and wider world.

Strong candidates will demonstrate:

  • Experience teaching Spanish and Humanities at the middle school level

  • Spanish fluency

  • Degree in Education or related field

  • Strong understanding of early adolescent development

  • Ability to foster positive relationships with and among students and parents

  • In-depth knowledge of Spanish and humanities curricula, and best teaching practices

  • Rich repertoire of teaching strategies to address a variety of learning styles and needs

  • Commitment to continuous professional learning, including understanding and application of current research and participation in professional development opportunities

  • Ability and interest in collaborative work with colleagues in the Middle School and throughout the school

  • Ability to meet varied demands with integrity, enthusiasm, creativity, flexibility, and a sense of humor

  • Ability to engage in student assessment and evaluation

  • Strong writing and communication skills

  • Basic skills in digital communication and integrating technology in the classroom

  • Possess a commitment to continuous professional growth and an enthusiasm for learning in community

  • Possess strong communication skills, along with a willingness to work flexibly and collaboratively with colleagues

  • Demonstrate strong intra/interpersonal organizational and time management skills

  • Be willing to understand how power and inequality, influenced by factors such as race, class, gender, sexuality, and learning and physical disabilities impact our students, families, and colleagues

  • Demonstrate an understanding of and strong affinity for Quaker philosophy and the School’s mission
