The Opportunity:
Carolina Friends School is seeking a part-time Extended Day Teacher to join the Middle School starting as soon as possible.
The Teacher will ensure the implementation of a quality Extended Day program grounded in the mission and philosophy of the School. Responsibilities will include maintaining a safe and supportive environment, as well as being fully present and supervising students in the fifth through eighth grade levels from 3:15 – 5:45 pm. We may have flexibility for one to five days per week depending on the successful candidate’s availability.
** This position can also be combined with the part-time Extended learning associate opportunity.
Daily expectations include:
- promote and maintain a safe and healthy environment aligned with the mission and philosophy of the Middle School
- help maintain accurate and organized records such as attendance, incident reports, shopping lists, and other necessary paperwork
- observe, monitor, and supervise indoor and outdoor activities
- assist students with homework and other afterschool needs
- engage with the children in positive, nurturing ways
- help prepare and provide snacks each day
- maintain a clean environment
- ensure Middle School expectations are maintained and followed during Extended Day
- communicate with parents of Extended Day students as needed
- engage and work with Middle School staff as needed
- report any concerns or questions to the Extended Learning Coordinator
- perform other duties as assigned or needed
- Strong candidates will have and/or demonstrate:
- delight in engaging with children
- experience supervising and actively engaging with middle school-aged students
- success creating and maintaining safe, appropriate, and engaging programs with this age
- strong understanding of child development
- ability to foster positive relationships with and among students and parents
- an understanding of and strong affinity for Quaker philosophy and the School’s mission
- strong communication skills
- ability and interest in collaborative work with colleagues in the Middle School
- Demonstrate commitment to understanding and exploring how power and inequality, influenced by factors such as race, class, gender, sexuality, neurodivergence, and different physical abilities, impact our students, families, and colleagues
- ability to meet varied demands with integrity, enthusiasm, creativity, flexibility, and a sense of humor
