Accounting Technician

The Opportunity:

Start Date: on or around November 2021

Carolina Friends School (CFS) seeks a talented, experienced, and highly organized Accounting Technician to work full-time in a busy and collegial Business Office.  This job requires strongly developed attention to detail and outstanding skills in the areas of Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable, as well as knowledge of MS Office (Word/Excel) and financial management applications. Prior experience in independent schools is desirable but not required.  This is a twelve-month, non-exempt position eligible for full benefits. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.  This position will work in-person at the CFS campus in Durham, NC.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Accounts Receivable
  • Accounts Payable
  • Student Billing
  • Internal and external customer service 
  • Maintaining all financial records in an organized manner

Experience and Skills Required Include:

  • Strong attention to detail and outstanding skills in the areas of organization and oral and written communication 
  • Outstanding technical skills in technology application, including but not limited to knowledge of Word/Excel and financial management applications 
  • 3 years of successful experience in an accounting position or an Associate’s Degree in Accounting or another related field
  • Demonstration of a poised, courteous, and professional demeanor 
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, display strategic thinking, follow-up, and display accountability for one’s work
  • Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality, demonstrate initiative, and proactive planning
  • Flexibility, energy, and enthusiasm for taking on a variety of tasks, along with a sense of humor
  • Strong interpersonal skills,  including teamwork and ability to work with diverse constituents and colleagues, interacting collaboratively in an educational community committed to diversity and inclusion
  • An understanding of and a strong affinity for Quaker philosophy and the School’s mission
  • A willingness to understand how power and inequality, influenced by factors such as race, class, gender, sexuality, and learning and physical disabilities, impact our students,  families, and colleagues
