Intern Program

Leadership Mentoring and Hands-On Experience

High School through College (Ages 16+)

They've played a vital role in our work. Because of our move to distance courses for 2020, however, we regret we can't welcome Interns as usual this summer.

Do you enjoy interacting with children? Do you love summer camp? Have you aged out of Counselor-In-Training roles? Are you willing to work hard? To be a problem-solver? Serving as an Intern and/or Extended Day staffer could be a fun way to spend some of your summer!

Our Interns work with the CFS Summer Programs staff in a variety of roles, including helping in the office and in our food service operations, supporting students and teachers in the classroom, providing supervision and fun activities for students during lunch and other breaks, mentoring middle-school-aged Counselors-In-Training, and more.

Sometimes the tasks will be mundane, but we also try to provide work that speaks to your individual strengths and interests, giving you significant responsibility whenever possible. We'll do our best to nurture you as a thoughtful and responsible young leader. We want you to take seriously your commitment to CFS Summer Programs and we want to take seriously our commitment to you.

We hope you'll find your tenure valuable both as tangible experience and for your resume.

The Intern Program generally requires a minimum commitment of three weeks, but they don't need to be consecutive.

Unlike the CIT Program, there is no tuition or other cost for the Intern Program.

High school students, don't forget that we're offering courses for you each summer! Options for 2020 included Dungeons and Dragons, forensic science, Magic the Gathering and math, and social justice activism. So, you might decide to enroll in one or more of those courses and spend three or more weeks as an Intern.

The Intern Program, which runs from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, is unpaid.

However, there is the opportunity for interested high school and college students to be paid as Extended Day staff members, working from 8:00 to 9:00 am and/or from 3:00 to 5:45 pm.

WHAT TO DO

Beginning in Spring 2020, interested candidates should send to Ruthie Allen, Summer Programs Coordinator, at ExtendedLearning@cfsnc.org a:

    • letter of interest, including
      • your weeks of availability
      • whether you want to work as an unpaid Intern during the day and/or as a paid staffer for Extended Day AM and/or PM
    • a brief resume
      • listing any experiences with children and other pertinent activities

We assess the candidacies of interested students at periodic intervals on a rolling basis.

For unpaid Interns, we'll then invite you to use our CampInTouch system to enroll in the weeks you'd like to serve. The Internship Program has its own entry distinct from the Summer Programs drop-down menu--please look a bit further down that page. As you move through registration once it opens, please enter 20Intern when prompted for a code.

Separately, we'll be in touch with Extended Day staffers to schedule their work hours.

Thanks so much for your interest in a CFS Summer Programs internship!
