Skills. Solid basic skills are a main requirement for success on either the SAT or the ACT. The core curriculum includes instruction/coaching in writing and math skills and techniques of reading comprehension, reading fluency, and accelerated reading.
Strategies. Good scholastic skills are only part of the story in doing well on these tests. The successful test-taker needs to know how to apply skills effectively and with leverage and to know the unwritten rules of the game.
Focus. Effective focus is crucial to drawing a fine point with strategy and developing certainty with skills. It’s also the key to overcoming ‘test-anxiety,’ particularly for students not used to the experience of high-stakes tests.
Mindfulness is the key, not only to learning how to focus effectively, but also to making full use of tools and strategies, and to bringing more talents and abilities to bear.
Says Rich, "I want every student to get great scores. But the real aim of this work is to help students deepen their taste for improving their minds, and applying them to all the challenges, obstacles and moments of their lives."
