Quaker Journey 2026

EXPLORING THE ROOTS OF QUAKERISM IN ENGLAND’S LAKE DISTRICT

If you'd like us to keep you updated on this and other transformational travel-learning experiences (including 2027 and 2028 Quaker pilgrimages), please complete this brief notification form.

2-9 August 2026

The Invitation

In 1652, George Fox climbed Pendle Hill and had a vision of "a great people to be gathered." That vision took root in the rugged, misty fells of England’s Lake District, forever changing the landscape of faith and justice.

This August, join a community of adult seekers on an eight-day pilgrimage to the birthplace of the Religious Society of Friends. Together, we will walk the paths of George Fox, Margaret Fell, and the early Valiant Sixty, finding our own "openings" in the beauty and silence of the Cumbrian hills.

In addition to being a spiritually nurturing experience for us individually, the Journey is a wonderful way to deepen relationships and build a stronger sense of community among F/friends and Friends institutions.

Individuals within and beyond the CFS community, including educators, Friends meeting members, and other interested adults, are invited on this Summer 2026 trip. You don't need Quaker affiliation, only a heart open to beauty, learning, and human connection.

The Experience

  • Retrace the Footsteps: From the summit of Pendle Hill to Firbank Fell, we stand where the movement began.
  • The Mother of Quakerism: Explore Swarthmoor Hall, the 17th-century home of Margaret Fell, a logistical and spiritual heart of the early Friends.
  • Deep Silence: Be moved by worship in historic meeting houses—some used continuously for over 350 years—where the silence is layered with centuries of truth-seeking.
  • Adventure in the Fells: During open time, experience the breathtaking physical landscape with walks and hikes through one of the most beautiful national parks in the world.

Be educated. Be challenged. Be inspired. Be empowered.
