Graduation Essence Statements
Graduation at Carolina Friends School follows the format of a Quaker Meeting for Worship. In addition to recognizing the graduates and presenting them with their diplomas, it is an occasion marked by silent reflection upon this community of seniors, during which some of those in attendance may feel moved to speak.
The program for Meeting for Worship with Attention to Graduation is accompanied by Essence Statements that introduce each graduate to those attending graduation. Each student receives one page in the booklet (about 6” x 8”). Page Coordinators are those the senior identifies to manage the process on their behalf.
Page Coordinators should use the form below to enter Essence Statement text. Full text is due by Wednesday, April 16 at 5:00 pm (earlier submission highly encouraged).
- To fit on the page, each Essence Statement must contain fewer than 3,200 characters, including spaces (about 500 words). Poems or entries with multiple line breaks will reduce the total count.
- If multiple friends and family members share submissions with the Page Coordinator for the final Essence Statement, the Page Coordinator needs to ensure that all contributions together meet this criteria.
- If the limit is reached and text still remains to enter, the Page Coordinator will need to shorten the text to fit the page.
Essence Statements will be read by members of your family, as well as visitors who don’t know the graduates. Staff reserves the right to edit for appropriateness.
