A Pre-K to Grade 12 Independent Quaker Day School Serving the Greater Durham-Chapel Hill Area

Community

We are more than a school. We are a learning community.

While our teachers bring both expertise and experience to their chosen fields of study, students and teachers meet in the classroom as working partners, actively learning together and from each other.

Our students and staff are also part of the larger learning community that is Carolina Friends School, and our position on Main Campus puts us in contact and collaboration with learners from Early School on up. Below are some of the main mechanisms by which we foster learning in relationship, build our understanding of one another, and provide ways for all students to grow into leadership together.

Learning in Service

Service is at the heart of a Quaker education. It is incorporated into our program through our curriculum of service learning as well as our time as advisee groups. Our students support our campus through such opportunities as facility maintenance and repair or building sets for theater and dance productions. They reach into our larger community by tutoring local elementary school students or holding fundraisers for hurricane relief. They can even serve their fellow students by teaching a course in an area of expertise (by proposal).
