Extended Day

Extended Day (AfterHours) for Lower and Middle Schools

The Carolina Friends School Extended Day (AfterHours) Program, coordinated by Cyrise Davis, is designed to create an experience for children after school where students have a safe space to do homework, enjoy a nutritious snack, and be inventors, artists, friends, teammates, quiet thinkers, explorers, and much more.

The program is structured to provide a context of children leading their own afternoon activities. Whether it's creating comedy skits in the Lower School or playing basketball games in the Middle School, the program is primarily student-led.

The Lower and Middle School Extended Day Teachers are supported by adult and/or CFS Upper School student assistants.

New to the 2019-2020 school year, you may enroll your child using our online form.

For inquiries, please contact Anthony and Ruthie at ExtendedLearning@cfsnc.org.

The fee for Extended Day may be reduced by up to the same rate as tuition; however, such financial assistance is limited to 40% of the contracted rate. We do require families desiring to receive financial assistance to commit to a contracted rate. Families should email Kim O'Neil in the Business Office at koneil@cfsnc.org for more information.

Teachers

Cyrise Davis, Extended Day Coordinator and Lower School Extended Day Teacher

Cyrise holds a B.A. in Art Education from North Carolina Central University and a B.S. in Commercial Art and Photography from Alamance Community College. In addition to her freelance photography, she’s worked as an art and photography teacher at The Hawbridge School in Saxapahaw, a site coordinator and lead teacher for a middle school after-hours program, a YMCA summer camp counselor, and a display ad designer for the News and Observer.

Cyrise is excited to employ her child-centered style of teaching (and passion for art) to help CFS Lower and Middle Schoolers learn, explore, and create in our Extended Day program.

Marshall Wilfong, Middle School Extended Day Teacher

Marshall Wilfong was born and raised in Durham. An Eagle Scout from Troop 400, he’s been volunteering and working as a summer camp counselor since the age of 12. When he was 15 he got his first job as a merit badge counselor at Camp Raven Knob instructing First Aid, Search and Rescue, Safety, Camping, and Wilderness Survival. His time spent in the Scouts gave him a massive amount of respect for the outdoors as well as for the youth he instructs. Before CFS Extended Day and Summer Programs teaching, Marshall was an after-school counselor at the Orange County Sportsplex and Aldersgate UMC.

He’s a Red Cross and BSA-certified lifeguard and takes the time to swim whenever he can get it. He’s been playing drums since he was 13 and one day hopes to study at the Berklee College of Music. An avid animal lover, Marshall has a four-year-old dog by the name of Willow and a 18-year-old cat by the name of Melvin. Marshall and Melvin have been best friends since Marshall at age seven found him in the woods one day.
