A Pre-K to Grade 12 Independent Quaker Day School Serving the Greater Durham-Chapel Hill Area

Aug 2018 Dance Workshop

We offer programs to enrich the lives of adult as well as young people—within and beyond the Carolina Friends School community.

Our latest initiative is private after-school music lessons for students of all ages (including parents and grandparents)--beginning, intermediate, and advanced. Open to those in the CFS and wider communities.

Three-Day Dance Intensive with Leah Wilks

Friday, August 3 ~ Sunday, August 5
10:00 am - 5:00 pm

Carolina Friends School
4809 Friends School Road

Durham, NC 27705

This three-day intensive will function as a space to get back into our dancing and creating bodies as summertime starts to draw to a close. Been wishing for some time to dive into your physical practice and learn some new moves? Hoping for some space to explore a new choreographic idea in a safe environment, or to get some new choreographic tools for an upcoming project? Just wanting to move with other bodies in a guided improvisational setting? We’ll be doing it all!

The grade/age minimum is 9th grade/14 years-old (or with special permission from the instructor).

All classes will take place at the Carolina Friends School Center Building (Directions).

Each day consists of three different classes:

  • 10 am-noon: Intermediate/Advanced Physical Practice (Release Technique a.k.a. MOVES MOVES MOVES)
  • 1-2:45 pm: Improvisation and Somatic Integration (in contact and solo)
  • 3-5 pm: Composition Laboratory

You can sign up for all three classes all three days, one class for all three days, or just one day of all three classes. Drop-ins are also welcome, but material may continue to build on work from the previous classes.
