A Pre-K to Grade 12 Independent Quaker Day School Serving the Greater Durham-Chapel Hill Area

Ours is an emergent curriculum through which children construct their understanding of the world by experimenting, playing, questioning, discussing, and wondering.

Individually and in groups, through themes or in-depth projects, they explore, make choices, and encounter diverse and wondrous worlds.

They care for their school and the larger community through service work, and learn to delight in the natural world through outdoor play and trips afield.

Our daily work is shaped by the tenets that inform our pedagogy as a Quaker School. Please visit the Philosophy page for more details about our curriculum in action.

We see the learning environment as an essential "third teacher" for the children in our programs. Our class groupings bring together students in age-specific and family-like mixed-age groups that enhance learning and growth.

Each Early School is shaped by the staff and students of its campus, and you will find a mix of leading educational approaches, including Reggio-Emilia, outdoor education, and project-based learning.
