We are not only a school but a learning community, and our families play an integral role in our Early School community.
Parents and teachers together work to develop a strong home-school connection through home visits, open communication, conferences, community events, and regular opportunities for parents to participate in classroom life. Our Early Schools also enjoy close ties to our larger educational communities, perhaps best illustrated by the teaching assistants and student teachers who come from Duke University, UNC-Chapel Hill, and Meredith College.
Additionally, community-based learning is at the heart of our Early School. Identifying concepts inside and outside of the classroom fosters curiosity and inquiry, deepening understanding. Each campus provides opportunities for students to adventure out, whether it's Durham Early School exploring downtown Durham or Duke Gardens, Chapel Hill Early School walking to nearby UNC Chapel Hill's campus, or Campus Early Schoolers benefitting from the outdoor education of a 126-acre campus, where they engage with learners of many ages.
