Physical education is integral to our curriculum, and we encourage all students to participate in our athletics program.
As with all elements of a Carolina Friends School education and experience, our athletics is guided by our mission and philosophy, informed by Quaker values such as truthfulness, simplicity, non-violent resolution of conflict, respect for others and oneself, and the power of community. Teaching and nurturing the whole child means developing a lifelong appreciation of physical health and activity, as well as asking students to challenge themselves in all educational areas.
Our School seeks to foster a sense of high, hopeful expectation in our students. We value excellence, and support healthy competition consistent with our Quaker principles of integrity and respect for others. Our athletes are challenged to perform the best that they can, to build team community through respect, communication, and encouragement, and to understand that fair play and sportsmanship is crucial to healthy competition. While we want to foster the work that leads to a sense of accomplishment, we also want our student-athletes to learn to aspire without fear of failure and to learn to grow from disappointment.
We recognize that athletics are just one of the many talents we respect and seek to nurture within our diverse community.
