Hello, friends.
School is back in session, at least virtually for most students. As we prepared to begin the 20-21 year, CFS staff embraced the word "reimagine" as a call to action. The graphic below by US Art Teacher Amelia Shull is a wonderful representation of our approach to this year--and the way staff and the CFS community have consistently evolved to meet changing needs while remaining solidly grounded in our Quaker values.
I invite you to share with us the ways you are reimagining aspects of your personal and professional life. Share your news, projects, family updates--let's try to stay connected and reimagine our world in community with each other.
In peace,
Program: Jim Henderson's Guided Meditation on the Land & History of CFS Wednesday, September 16 at 7 p.m. To join from your mobile app: Meeting ID: 945 3013 7436
Join Jim Henderson, retired staff member (1982-2013), alumni parent (Dave '05 and Jonathan '01), and double sax player as he shares this very special meditation on the place we know as CFS. Beginning with the pre-history of the land as volcanic island terrain through the centuries to present day, Jim invites us to consider the land's historical context and to be keepers of the vision and stewards of the land to which we are heirs.
This meditation was first shared on April 22, 2012 and is published in 27 Views of Carolina Friends School.

Save the Date: 2nd Annual Remembrance Ceremony Friday, November 6, 7 p.m. Zoom link to be sent closer to the event
For more than a decade, CFS's Middle School has celebrated Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). MS community members have honored loved ones who have passed by voicing memories and writing notes on giant kites in the Guatemalan tradition of barilletes gigantes during a special Meeting for Worship.
Last year, we began a new tradition: on the first Friday following Halloween, we will gather annually and celebrate the lives of members of the CFS community that we have lost through a slideshow presentation, followed by a meeting for worship.
Big thanks to Henry Walker, whose vision created this moving event along with a Memorial Circle on campus (designed and built by Bradley McDevitt '89), and to the many CFS community members who helped make it a reality!
Community News Congratulations to Kathryn Diamant '11 on receiving her Masters in Occupational Therapy from UNC-Chapel Hill this spring.

Send us your news! In addition to inclusion in our new newsletter format, we now publish Class Notes in our We & Thee magazine! From left to right: Fili, Peggy, Marion, and Brian. Carolina Friends School is a vibrant and inclusive learning community empowering students to think critically, creatively, and independently. We foster active exploration and quiet reflection, individual endeavor and collaborative engagement. Inspired by Quaker values — pursuit of truth, respect for all, peaceful resolution of conflict, simplicity, the call to service — we teach our children that it is possible to change the world.
