Systems Administrator

Start Date on or around August 1, 2019

The Opportunity:

Carolina Friends School (CFS) is seeking a full-time Systems Administrator (benefits-eligible) for the 2019-2020 school year. The Systems Administrator is a vital member of the School’s technology team and reports to the Director of Technology. The primary function of this position is to ensure the smooth operation of the School’s network as well as serve as the primary technical support contact. 

This will be a one year position with the possibility of continuation.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining the network infrastructure which includes Cisco switches, Barracuda firewalls, and Aerohive access points

  • Deploying, troubleshooting, and maintaining Windows Server installations

  • Assisting in the management of Google Apps for Education

  • Managing backup systems 

  • Providing end-user hardware and software support

  • Deploying and managing end-user devices such as Chromebooks, MacBooks, PC laptops and HP printers

Experience and Education:

  • A minimum of an associate degree in Information Services/Technology, Computer Science, or related field

  • A minimum of 5 years of systems administration or network administration experience

  • A minimum of 1 year of experience providing technical support

  • Experience working at an independent school

  • Extensive experience configuring and supporting firewalls, switches, spam filters and access points

  • In-depth knowledge of and experience with Windows Server management

  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting Windows 7, Windows 10, and OSX

  • Desired Certifications: CCNA and CWNP certifications

  • Familiarity with database management

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Detail-oriented

  • Ability to work well as a member of a team and independently

  • Understanding of and strong affinity for Quaker philosophy and the School’s mission

  • Willingness to understand and explore how power and inequality influenced by factors such as race, class, gender, sexuality, and learning and physical disabilities impact our students, families and colleagues

This position requires occasional lifting and carrying of equipment up to 50lbs.  Occasional evening and weekend work may be required for server and network maintenance.
