Groundskeeper/Maintenance Associate

The Opportunity:

Carolina Friends School (CFS) is seeking a full-time, salary non-exempt Groundskeeper/Maintenance Associate. This position is a vital member of the School’s Shop team and reports to the Director of Facilities. This position is benefits-eligible.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Perform all grounds maintenance functions including mowing, weeding, trimming, watering, planting, downed tree/limb clean-up, and other related duties or assignments

  • Placement and removal of various sports goals and other equipment (soccer, baseball, tennis)

  • Layout, mark, line or paint lines on sports fields for school athletic events

  • Control irrigation systems for uniformity of water application and maintenance of watering equipment

  • Keep grounds free from trash, litter, and debris, and empty outdoor trash receptacles

  • Facilitate campus snow and ice removal and treat walking spaces for pedestrian safety

  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures, as mandated by school and state

  • Adherence to all school policies

  • Performs other related duties necessary for the operations and maintenance of the CFS buildings and grounds,  all aspects of vehicle maintenance and any or all other duties assigned by their supervisor

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Current  Class C driver’s license with a satisfactory motor vehicle record

  • Demonstrated knowledge and physical ability to perform the tasks as outlined above

  • Ability to operate lawn mowers, tractors, snow blowers/plows and other maintenance machinery

  • Ability to climb and perform basic arborous functions

  • Basic knowledge of small and vehicular engine maintenance and repair

  • Experience in establishing and maintaining natural grass fields

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines,  and display accountability for one’s work

  • Ability to work with diverse constituents and colleagues and interact collaboratively in an educational community committed to diversity and inclusion

  • Flexibility as new priorities are identified

  • Enjoys being in a school setting

  • Demonstrated professionalism and appropriateness in an environment including children 

  • A willingness to understand how power and inequality, influenced by factors such as race, class, gender, sexuality, and learning and physical disabilities impact our students,  families, and colleagues

  • An understanding of and strong affinity for Quaker philosophy and the School’s mission

  • Ability to work occasional extended hours and weekends

This position requires lifting and carrying of equipment up to 150 lbs and working in extreme weather conditions.  Extended hours, evening and weekend work may be required.
