Dear CFS Families,
It is my great pleasure to announce the appointment of Lisa Carboni as Lower School Head Teacher, effective July 1, 2007.
As you may know, Lisa serves currently as the Director of Teacher Education in the Program in Education at Duke University, where she began work in 1998. Lisa earned her M.Ed. in Gifted Education at Kent State University, her M.Ed. in Instructional Design at UNC-Chapel Hill, and her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction at UNC-Chapel Hill. She brings to her new assignment 20 years of experience as a classroom teacher, educational consultant, graduate teaching fellow, and supervisor of elementary student teachers. Lisa is also the parent of two CFS students and an attender at the Durham Friends Meeting. Recommenders describe her as “warm, engaging, authentic, and knowledgeable,” a “true professional, who can inspire confidence among students, staff, and parents and keep us attuned to what’s new and worthwhile in the field of educational research.” We feel very fortunate to have Lisa among us and very grateful for her willingness to take on this role.
Special thanks to the Lower School Head Teacher Search Committee members (Laura Lamberson, Mary Harwood, Michael Bonsignore, Natasha Shannon, Ruth Gaskin, and Tom Shewey), who designed and facilitated a process highly inclusive and thorough in its evaluation of candidates. I am also very grateful to Lower School student interviewers and to all of the staff members, students, and parents who contributed to this process.
Finally, let me note how grateful I am for the gracious support of Head Teacher Linda Dixon, who has adjusted in many ways her and the Lower School’s schedule in order to accommodate the search process. Linda will work closely with me and Lisa in order to facilitate this exciting transition.
