| Mountain and Forest Classes "Travel" to Afghanistan |
 |
Children in the Lower School Mountain and Forest Classes recently participated in a series of Discovery Groups that focused on learning about the culture of Afghanistan. The theme of the Discovery Groups was inspired by CFS's relationship with its sister school in Tob Chi, Afghanistan, and a desire to promote peace and understanding of another culture through tangible learning experiences.
The thematic events were brought to the children by parents and community members who volunteered their time to lead groups such as Kite Making, Afghan cooking, Calligraphy and Art, Maps and Music, Fairy Tales and Drama, Afghan Children's Games, Rug Weaving and Felting. The groups culminated in a lively outdoor Afghan Bazaar, where the children "traveled" to each other's market stands and shared with one another what they'd learned about different aspects of Afghan culture.
