Welcome to the Upper School!
Dear Friend,
Welcome to the Carolina Friends Upper School Website. I hope you will take your time to browse through our site to explore the many areas of our Upper School. As Head Teacher, it is my pleasure to welcome you and let you know about our focus this year (school year 2007-2008). The entire Carolina Friends School is working on a self-study throughout this school year, with a focus on preparing our students to be Global Citizens. We have formulated the following question to guide us through this self-study: What is our vision of the set of experiences we want our students to have during their time at CFS in the areas of cultural multiplicity, stewardship, and technology to prepare Global Citizens?
More specifically in the Upper School, we are working on the following specific areas:
- Creating a sophomore curriculum: a new vision for the humanities that includes Global Citizenship requirements
- Developing an Environmental Studies curriculum
- Finding ways to improve and reinforce the development of speaking skills in the US language learning experience
- Discovering ways in which blogs and wikis can support and enhance the Upper School curriculum
Through the process of action research, our staff members are working together to research best practices in these areas and find ways to infuse new ideas into our work with our students. As we move through the year, our excitement and enthusiasm continue to grow. I am most excited about my new blog which details more specifics of our daily experiences in Upper School. I welcome you to visit my blog: http://cfsupperschoolnews.blogspot.com.
Thank you for stopping by our website. I hope you are able to learn a great deal about our school and, more specifically, the Upper School. I look forward to meeting you in person.
Sincerely,
Carrie Huff
