When you visit, you'll notice some of the distinctive attributes of Carolina Friends School.
-
Students and staff address one another by first name.
-
We have no classrooms with desks in ordered rows; students are likely to be arranged on sofas, on the floor, at desks, or at tables in a half-circle around a white board.
-
We use narrative evaluations instead of numerical grades.
-
As a matter of philosophy inspired by Quaker faith and practice, we choose not to offer Advanced Placement and Honors courses. Yet, we strive to maintain a rigorous curriculum that will prepare students for a variety of post-CFS paths, including matriculation at the most selective colleges. For more information about the college counseling process at CFS (including recent college matriculation lists), please visit the Counseling section of the Upper School website.
-
In our eight-period schedule each week, students supplement their academic coursework with gardening, hiking, and other offerings in the arts, physical education, and service—part of the School's mission to educate the whole person.
Please see the Upper School Profile/Curriculum Guide for more information.
