Dear Parents and Friends,
My first job as new Head Teacher
of the Upper School was to clean out the files.
As I poured through stacks of old letters,
budgets, plans, and evaluations, I was filled with a
deep sense of the history of the Carolina Friends
School. As
I spent time with past Head Teachers Bob Fulks, Rocco
Trisolini, Jim Henderson, and Mike Hanas, I was
reminded of the old saying, “The more things change,
the more they stay the same.”
Our numbers have grown; the
campus has expanded; we have added a new gym and a
thriving sports program, yet the basic goals of the
Carolina Friends School remain grounded in our Quaker
philosophy. From
the day they arrive at CFS until the day they depart,
our students are taught the value of simplicity, the
power of silence, the spirituality of life, and
respect for individual uniqueness.
Our philosophy is at the root of everything we
do. Our
rising seniors are busy this summer planning a senior
retreat in August that will help them to build
community with one another and to define their roles
as leaders in our Upper School community.
They are designing a buddy system between
seniors and freshmen so the younger students will feel
welcome in their new environment.
This senior project is representative of the
spirit that begins at the core of our philosophy and
lives through the beliefs and actions of our students,
teachers, parents, and board members.
At the Carolina Friends School,
we are a community of learners.
We nurture our students as they grow
physically, intellectually, emotionally, and
spiritually in a dynamic environment.
We are a school where our past is intrinsically
linked to our future.
Welcome!
Carrie Huff
