| Overall Objective: |
| To introduce the concept of language as a gateway to understanding other ways of seeing and interpreting the world. |
| Specific goals for children: |
- to develop an understanding and respect of Hispanic (Latino) culture
- to develop basic conversation skills in the Spanish language
- to build basic vocabulary skills relevant to classroom, home, and play
- to stimulate an excitement for the vast opportunities that communication in another language brings.

| Methods: |
- Songs, stories and games
- Hands-on activities: art projects, cooking, seasonal celebrations
- Repetition of phrases, commands and vocabulary
- Reinforcement of vocabulary and phrases in the larger classroom and at home through provision of handouts to teachers and parents

| River and Sky Classes: emphasis will be on aural language acquisition |
| Mountain and Forest Classes: emphasis will be on aural language, with the introduction of written language and reading |
