Studies begin with the individual student's understanding of self and the world around. A child's understanding is rooted in the natural egocentrism of young children. We work to make and reenforce connections between the child and the wider world

Social Studies curriculum topics are chosen by River and Sky Class teachers from year to year, based on the developmental needs of the students, Lower School themes, seasonal themes, local events and history, and world events, as these relate to the child. These topics are integrated into ongoing classroom work.
