Summer 2010 - CIT (Counselors-in-Training)

Ages 13 to 15

$65 per week   9 am to 3 pm
(registration forms)**

If you enjoy interacting with younger children and would like to work in a summer camp setting, we have a program for you!   If you have previously been a CIT, please read the note below.

The Counselor-in-Training (CIT) Program requires a TWO-WEEK commitment. We work with you as you learn to lead groups of children and follow directions from your mentor teacher.

Each week you are assigned to a different workshop, matching your interests and skills when possible, with the younger groups ages 4-6 or 6-8. In some circumstances, we may place you with older groups. You should peruse the website to see what is being offered and to choose what classes you might be interested in helping.

We check in with you throughout the day to make sure you're on the right track and listen to your input. At the end of the session, you will receive a written assessment from your mentor teacher.

Parents needing extended care can sign up for a reduced extended day fee (50% off).

WHAT TO DO:

  • Interested candidates should send a letter of  interest along with a brief resume listing any experiences with children or other pertinent activities to the CFS Summer Programs office.
  • Should sign up for the Leadership Camp .     If you cannot attend these weeks, you will still be considered as a CIT depending on your experience. Taking the Leadership Camp after working as a CIT is also recommended if you have never taken it. Your input is invaluable in the workshop.
  • Select weeks on your registration form that you are interested in being a CIT, and enter "CIT" for that week.
  • We ask for a two-week commitment; they do not need to be back to back weeks.
  • Attach fee. The cost of this program is $65 per week.
  • Spaces are limited each week.  SESSION FULL?  CHECK BACK WITH US...SUMMER PLANS DO CHANGE & WE MAY HAVE NEW OPENINGS.

Note to parents: Please send your registration forms and payment to the Summer Program office: 4809 Friends School Rd, Durham NC 27705.   We will confirm your camper's position as a CIT after we receive the

  • resume and letter of interest
  • registration forms and fee
***NOTE to PARENTS:   ALL of the requirements above are FOR THE CANDIDATE to complete NOT THE PARENT.  If there are inquiries, the candidate should email us, NOT THE PARENT.
Been a CIT already?  Those candidates who have previously been CITS will not need to be interviewed and do NOT need to send a resume,  but they do need to send another letter of interest explaining why they want to repeat this experience.  So resume, no.  Letter, yes.  Registration, yes.
Parents, this is the beginning of learning how to apply for a position, finding out what the requirements are, and following through.  Let's give them a chance to try out their wings!  So give them the information and let them go.....let them grow.  We're here to help them.
