531 Raleigh Rd. in Chapel Hill, NC. (
CHES Directions).

Extended Day is an additional charge of $55 per week from 3:00pm-5:30pm.

If the camper is not a CFS student, you will need to complete a Permission and
Emergency Notification form
which you can download here (permission/emergency
form) or we will mail you one. Please include this
with your registration
form when registering. We
will mail confirmation letters
within 10 days
explaining policies and activities
and including forms you must sign.

Campers should pack a lunch and snack. Children will need to bring their own lunch which will be kept in the
refrigerator. Please do not send food that will need to be heated. CHES will provide an afternoon snack for those
staying past 3:00. You will get more information about your week at CHES camp in a letter prior to camp start date!!
Lunch is typically between 12:00 and 12:30. Once children are finished with their lunch
they do indoor play between 12:30 and 1:00. After lunch the children will have a rest time in the multi purpose
room. Each child will have their own cot. Children are welcome to
bring stuffed animals and a special blanket / pillow. Children not
sleeping may look at books or play quietly on their cots. After rest the children will have a chance for free choice play and outside time until it's time to go home.
At CHES Summer Camp, the children will spend their day playing inside the building as well as ample time outside on our shaded and fenced playground. Each week will offer a balance of planned and child led activities.
CHES is located on Raleigh Road across from the UNC Institute of Government and around
the corner from the Paul Green Theatre (Playmakers). There is a UNC parking lot next to
the drive for the Chapel Hill Friends Meeting right before the traffic light at the corner of
Country Club and Raleigh Rd.
STAFF: Our delightful staff will be Debbie Kornegay Sessions 4, 5, and 6 and Hallie Montgomery Sessions 1, 2, and 3 along with three other staff assistants. Both Debbie and Hallie are currently teachers at Chapel Hill Early School! Our assistants will be Wyatt Schaeffer (Sessions 1-6), Cathy Harmen (Sessions 1 and 2), and Robin Barnhill (Sessions 4, 5, 6) Wyatt is a regular substitute teacher at Chapel Hill Early School during the academic year. Cathy works at a preschool in Durham. Robin works with the Orange County School system. All of them bring experience, a sense of fun, creativity, and warmth to our summer program. Wyatt will be with the Extended Day campers from 3 to 5:30 for Sessions 1,2,4,5,6 and during the day from 12:15 on. Cathy and Robin will work with the campers from 8:15-3:15 daily.

Trash to Treasure Session

Just like Oscar the Grouch, we love TRASH! This week the children will create works of art and useful items using things that might otherwise be thrown away. We will make picture frames, treasure boxes, toys, masterpieces for families and even jewelry.

Exploring the Rain Forest Session
Over - you missed it!
Have you ever swung from a tree by your tail? Seen a giant python? This week we will explore all the wonders of the rain forest. The children will create the canopy of the rain forest as they learn about the sights, sounds and tastes of life in the rain forest. We will create paper bag monkeys, tube snakes and vines to add to the canopy.

What better way to beat the heat than to have WINTER in July? This week we will use our imaginations and cool off as we create a winter wonderland in the middle of summer! We will make snowmen, snowflakes, icy treats and read many chilly winter stories. Brrrrr!

Under the Sea
Come ride the waves of literature, dramatic play, art and water play! Bring your bathing suit and towel and join us. We will create our own sea life books, watercolor fish and a giant sponge paint mural. We will turn our playground into a beach and bask in the sun.

Pirate Adventures
Pirate Adventures
 Ahoy Campers! Come join us for a week of fun pretending to be Pirates. We will be creating our own pirate names make pirate hats, create a giant pirate ship mural and paint our own bandanas and pirate flags. Great fun for boys and girls alike - yes, there were GIRL pirates too.
Bring your favorite teddy bear and join us! We'll spend the days building bear caves, going on "bear hunts" and reading our favorite bear stories. The children will help corduroy find his button, draw and paint bears and enjoy Pooh's favorite treat - honey! We will end our week with a Teddy Bear picnic.
