Lower School Interest Groups/Discovery Groups
Interest and Discovery Groups are special activities offered to Lower School children primarily on Friday
afternoons. Teachers offer groups on topics of interest to them, and we welcome and encourage parents to join us in offering a group. Recent examples include: Board Games; Girls' Sports; Art for Others; Boat and Rocks; Structures; Good Things in Small Tins; Soul Drawing; Book Swap Shop; Creeks, Trails, and Outdoor Digging; Namaste, Young Yogis and Yoginis;
and Ultimate Frisbee. For more information, including specific dates, please visit http://www.cfsnc.org/uploaded/LowerSchool/Forms/IG-DGs_for_16-17.pdf
Athletic Liaisons Committee
Athletics liaisons are also a part of the PSA. They meet regularly with the Athletic Director to provide parent support and feedback regarding the athletic program at CFS. Current Volunteer Needs include:
- Concession stand operators - primarily winter, but would love to be open during all seasons.
- Photographers - capture the winning moments (our kids in action)
- Writers - Help us by writing some great copy to be shared internally and externally
- Work Day - Join us as we give attention to a work project; last year we did the soccer field. This year, we anticipate devoting some time and labor to the baseball field.
Middle School Pizza Lunch
Parents are needed to help serve pizza lunch on Wednesdays from 11:15 am to 12:30 pm in the Middle School.
Upper School Bagel Tuesdays
Volunteering on Bagel Tuesdays is a wonderful opportunity to get a sneak peek into Upper School life. It's a fundraiser led by parents to decrease costs of end-of-year experiences. Every Tuesday from 9:30 am to 11:30 am, parent volunteers set up, serve bagels with cream cheese and hot chocolate/ juice/tea to students, then clean. Overall time commitment is approximately two hours. You can volunteer once or routinely... it's up to you.
Martin Luther King Day Committee Liaison
We are looking for a parent who will serve on the MLK Day Committee (comprised of teachers, staff and students) and also attend the monthly PSA executive committee meetings. This liaison will keep us apprised of what plans are being made to celebrate MLK Day - and how the PSA can help support and publicize these events.
Recycling and Waste Reduction Committee
The Recycling and Waste Reduction Committee helps keep the CFS campus “green.” Waste reduction efforts have included major campaigns in the Lower and Middle Schools, the Back-to-School Picnic, and PSA events. We head up the beloved Recycling Fairs and teach environmental interest and discovery groups in the Lower School. We have expanded the popular Middle School Eco Chicos program to the Lower School where we help with the Eco Chiquitos, an environmental club. The help needed in this committee is broad and can range from one time volunteer shifts to organizing Fairs, teaching lessons, and broadening the on-campus recycling and composting efforts.
