Facility changes are afoot on campus
Posted 07/01/2010 11:23AM

Paintbrushes, hammers, & saws are helping improve the physical plant at CFS this summer. At the Upper School, for example, a grey stain is being applied that will protect the wood of the 1970s main building and visually tie it to the other buildings in the complex (the Resource and Shared Buildings, the Meeting Hall, and the Hut). Some decking and railings are also being replaced.

Inside the Upper School, two small spaces are being combined into an office for teachers Philip Gary and Dylan Pendergrast, a home for Dylan's advisory group, and a room for testing, tutoring, and other academic uses. The lower hallway in the Resource Building has been painted and the cubbies there removed in order to make way for metal lockers and other enclosed storage.

The administrative space in the Center Building has also seen changes. The office shared by the Associate Development Coordinator and the Annual Giving Coordinator got reconfigured and part of the Principal's office has been enclosed in order to create a separate office for the Assistant Principal (whose previous office became home to the newly-hired Director of Advancement this past year).

At the gym, roll-up screens have been added to a bank of large windows for greater energy efficiency.

Bigger changes are coming to campus in the coming years as we implement the exciting construction projects outlined in Meeting the Challenge (the School's current long-range strategic plan), including expansions to the Campus Early, Lower, and Middle Schools; a signature performing arts center; tennis courts; and a renovated QuakerDome multipurpose facility. In the meantime, we'll continue to make enhancements to our physical plant in order to create attractive and functional spaces for teaching and learning.
