This committee meets regularly with the Director of Athletics to provide parent support and feedback regarding the athletics program at CFS. Typically, they host an all-school Sports Night each season, inviting folks to cheer on the Quakers, partake of delicious food, and enjoy the company of fellow CFS community members.

This committee organizes volunteers who provide prepared meals or rides to school for CFS families experiencing loss, illness, or hardship.

Care is simple: request when needed, offer when able.

What is a Care request? A request from a CFS family for meals and/or rides to school.

What is a Care meal? A homemade or store-bought, ready-to-heat-and-eat meal that will feed the number of family members in a Care request. Care meals are packaged in non-returnable containers. Allergens, dietary restrictions, or other nutritional needs are respected. Dessert and utensils are not required.

How to request Care meals anonymously: Contact a single person (such as your child’s head teacher, unit liaison, staff member, trusted friend, or Care Committee member). Provide basic information regarding number of people eating, meal frequency and preferences, and allergy concerns. Your contact person will communicate your needs (anonymously) to the Care co-conveners.

How to ask for Care meals or rides non-anonymously: Contact a Care Co-Convener or Care’s staff liaison, Charlie Layman. Share as few or as many details as you like. Some families request semi-privacy, choosing to share only generalities. Other families prefer to share personal details, requesting emotional support from the Care community. Care operates comfortably either way and will share with Care volunteers only the information you choose.

Who are Care members? Currently, Care’s 185 volunteer members include parents, teachers, staff, alum, alum parents, and board members. Many Care members were once Care recipients themselves.

How are Care meals delivered? Care volunteers deliver prepared meals to a designated Care refrigerator in the rear lobby of the Center Building. Care recipients (or their designated contact person) may pick-up meals after 3:00 pm. Anonymous families/representatives may enter through the side door (via the handicap access ramp) if they so choose.

How to join Care: Simply provide Care Co-Conveners with your email address. Throughout the school year, whenever a family requests Care, you will receive an email with a link to an online meal calendar. You decide how/if/when you are able to provide a meal, ride, or emotional support.

This committee plans and organizes annual events such as the All-School Community Picnic and current and former parent/teacher social get-togethers. Co-conveners are Amy Knight and Nancy Kelly.

The Grocery Committee manages our dynamic, ongoing grocery fundraiser that brings tens of thousands of dollars annually into our children's classrooms! Some of our tasks can happen from home, and timing can be very flexible. If you are detail-oriented (and/or good with numbers) and can help out 2-4 hours per month, we'd love to have you join us.

Unit liaisons are also a part of the PSA. Each unit of the school has a number of parents who serve as parent liaisons. The liaisons are a resource for the Head Teacher of each unit in a myriad ways including: helping coordinate parent volunteers; offering input on issues of concern in the unit; and communicating with parents. Liaisons are also a resource for parents who have questions or concerns they want to discuss with another parent.

These volunteers welcome new families to Carolina Friends School by organizing buddy families and parent get-togethers. The Welcome Committee comprises parents in the Lower, Middle, and Upper Schools who work with the Office of Admission to help new families transition to CFS. (The Early Schools, which are smaller and where a higher percentage of students are new each year, arrange their own welcome experiences for families.)

Two or more parents in each unit help with parent buddy matches and assist with events like spring welcome gatherings for newly admitted families, gatherings before the back-to-school picnic in August, and occasional informal get-togethers before or after the opening of school. Instead of meeting as a whole group with a central chair or co-chairs, the Welcome Committee is unit-based, and helps to coordinate connections and gatherings based on the developmental needs and interests of families with children of similar age. Of the parent liaisons in each unit, at least one is dedicated to Welcome Committee.
