Why CFS?

Greetings from the CFS Admissions Office

Welcome to the CFS Admissions site! Whether you’re learning about Carolina Friends School for the first time or curious about recent news, we’re glad you’re here. We encourage you to explore our site fully – by clicking on “What’s New at CFS ” in the upper right corner of the home page, or entering Early, Lower, Middle, or Upper School at the bottom of the page. Even better, come in person to learn about CFS by arranging a tour (October through April) or planning to attend an Open House (in November and December).

Where are we in the admissions cycle?
We have just completed our first round of admissions, and we’re delighted with the wonderful families who will be joining CFS. Since experience suggests that further openings usually arise, we encourage interested families to apply for the waiting pool.

When an opening occurs, we look to the entire waiting pool, which includes applications received after January. And all families in the waiting pool are invited to reactivate applications for the following year (2009-10) without paying an additional application fee. (Depending on when an application arrives and what we know about the coming year, we may defer some steps in the process until next year.)

Diversity at CFS

As has been true for a decade, 22% of students strengthen diversity of race or ethnicity at CFS. The School was founded to offer racially integrated education before it was available in other local schools, and attracting and retaining families of color continues to be a priority for us. CFS is an independent school, with families of diverse religious backgrounds; around 12% of our families attend Quaker Meetings.
Socio-economic diversity is also important at Carolina Friends School. CFS allocates a higher percentage of tuition revenue to tuition assistance (9%) than most independent schools of our size in this region. Nearly one in five CFS students receives need-based tuition aid, and admissions decisions are made without consideration of whether a family would need financial assistance.

What next?

To schedule a tour or admissions interview, please call Kathy Kirschmann at extension 221 or email kkirschmann@cfsnc.org. To learn more about tuition aid, call Kathleen Davidson at extension 240 or email kdavidson@cfsnc.org. We look forward to talking with you and appreciate your interest in Carolina Friends School.
