The Upper School has a number of different committees and groups run by students to speak to their particular interests. Among these are a Gay-Straight Alliance and the Triangle Alliance of Diverse Students.

The focus of the 2003-2004 school year is economic diversity and increased scholarship.

The Carolina Friends School is in session for a half-day on Martin Luther King Day. We use this time to celebrate his life and work first in units and then as an entire community.

Our foreign language program offers Spanish and French from beginning level (1st year) through advanced level (6th year). These classes include the study of literature and connect to trips (e.g. Costa Rica, France, and Puerto Rico) and all-school cultural events (such as the Day of the Dead).

Our curriculum offers a diversity of courses including a number of non-Western centered offerings. Among these are: Islam, African History, Pacific World, and Latin American History.
